Final Project
We have decided doing a DIY train ticket vending machine, we've looked at several different videos but we decided to refer to this YouTube video.
After the idea is approved, while discussing about the material of the vending machine, the choices were cardboard (like in the video) or corrugated plastic boards. But the outcome would not look as nice in an aesthetic point of view, so I suggested to laser cut wood for the outer shell of the vending machine. Since I know how laser cut works I was tasked to do the measurements of the vending machine referring to the video, and Christy is designing the train tickets.

We met up on campus today to laser cut the outer shell of the vending machine. We went to the Taylor's Me.reka Makerspace to laser cut, we visited the Makerspace last week and talked to Mr William which directed us to Ms April who is in charge of laser cutting. Consulted her on the cost and other concerns, they were really helpful and friendly.
After laser cutting, we claulated the inside and figured out the parts to cut. The inside system will be made with reused cardboard because it's easier to manage and some parts are also made with modelling board.

Printed the tickets and stuck them on a thicker paper/board so it could be pushed down. And then continue on with assembling the vending machine.

This project reflects the minimalistic Japanese culture and how it has influenced
Japanese design.
Japanese Design revolves around functionality. Throughout our research, we have
discovered that the Japanese have been taught that simplicity and functionality is
key. That very mindset has shaped the way Japanese designers produce designs
that put functionality at is core of reasoning.
Hence, we wanted to embrace the functionality of Japanese Design within Malaysian
Identity. As Malaysia uses the concept of tokens for public transport, there isn’t much
function nor information on it as opposed to Japanese tickets.
Thus, appreciating the quality of Japanese design, we decided to portray our
reflections on to this ticket machine made out of wood, a material used in the
Japanese culture for centuries.
Instructions:
1. Please insert a 50 cent coin into the coin slot.
2. Gently push the button to release your ticket.
3. Wait for your tickets to come out of the allocated slot.
Here are some more photographs of the final product and how it works.

REFLECTION_
EXPERIENCES
Week 08
It has been a while since I did some measurements, so wrapping my head around to figure out the internal measurements made me feel very dumb (I didn't sign up for this). But at least they're card boards so its easy to fix stuff if the measurements is off. I'm thankful that we finished on time.
Week 09
On submission day I got to see other groups' products weather their big in scale or small, they all have interesting take away from the trip.

OBSERVATIONS
Week 08
It was a bit hard to balance out our time for this as the other module projects are also due in this week and I had a MPU module exam too.
Week 09
I saw that scale didn't matter for this final product as from what I saw from the other groups, they're all executed well.
FINDINGS
Week 08
I realised my role is switched with Christy's as it would make sense if I do design stuff and she leads the vending machine part, but this shows that we are quite flexible and willing to do what we are assigned to do to the best of our ability.

Week 09
Surprisingly, some of my classmates find that the vending machine is quite impressive. Because it is a really simple system, but it is fun to see their reactions when they see they ticket come out and the coin being in the coin box.
