LECTURES_
Lecture 01 _
30 Aug 2019 (week 01)
We were briefed by Dr. Yati and Dr. Jinchi on what to expect in this module while going through the module information booklet with the class. They mentioned that it is best if the topic of research relates to what we are going to do in our specialisation.

PROPOSAL_

Week 01
After briefing we had time to figure out our research topic before consulting with them. Since I'm going into animation, my first topic is "How are traditional media based animation still relevant" since I like more traditional media like Studio Ghibli's works.

Feedback:
Dr. Yati said that this topic has already been widely researched and that we know about the reason and that I should try to read more articles to find my topic.

Week 02
Research topic
-How visual metaphor enhances the interest of characters in animation.

Outcome
-To find out if its more meaningful/expressive if visual metaphor was used.

Rationale
As someone who is looking to go into the animation field, I wanted to learn more about the inner workings of what goes into creating an interesting characters aside from the story line. And a character can have elements that adds to the expression that it is trying to convey which enhances the expression. Visual metaphor works well to make a scene with a character more interesting as it is exaggerated in a way of how there is no connection between the linked subjects.

The first time I saw a clip of a short animation that is based around visual metaphor, I was instantly amazed by how the visual metaphor worked hand in hand to tell the story of the character. Even though the animation was only based on one character, it was interesting because of the number of visual metaphors that was used in the animation as the metaphors do work really nicely so it was easy to understand it straight away. But with that being said, I don’t remember much about major animation films or cartoons using a lot of visual metaphors even though it does add on to the action of a character and gives a clearer expression to the action.

Feedback:
The initial research idea is fine, but Dr. Hayati wants me to do more research on it and find the output and the use of the research. After that I did more research but decided the idea is too hard for me so I changed it and got the approval to do the new topic.

Week 03
I showed Dr Hayati what I had at the moment with my new research topic.

Feedback:
-Changing the research question, why not animation go for more natural
-Is there a research done on the debate
-Change the objectives because its contradicting to problem statement
-Make the feedback sheet to be more detailed.
-On the right path but need to have more proof to back up the statement

Week 04
Here's the slide for the proposal.
