Project 1
We are doing a self portrait for project 1 and we can use any medium of our choice.
I wanted to do traditional media so I chose watercolour and acrylic for the paints; also pencil for sketching and fine liner to do some outlines. I based this idea on my emotions, when I thought about my emotions the one that I associate the most is sadness. I cry very easily and quite frequently. So when I was thinking about the idea for this project, I came u with one phrase that goes like "My tears could water a whole garden, but plants die when you're overwatering them.". So this piece just shows that I'm an emotional person and the most noticeable action for me is crying.

1st sketch
It felt a bit too empty so I added a contrasting element; healthy plants vs browning plants.

2nd sketch
The sketch was fine so I just proceeded with it. I have a picture of me after I cried, I know its a weird but I do have it. So I just use that as a reference photo. For this project I don't plan to make it as neat because I always paint quite clean and neat. And this will be stylised so its not meant to be realistic.

A problem with painting on a thinner paper
There was a problem occurred since the paper was only 200 gsm, and it was my fault for not using a thicker paper. It just took a longer time to dry and also I couldn't really blend the colours. But it was fine since I'm not going for a clean and neat look.

Final piece
There's asymmetrical balance used in this piece, lines is also done with fine liner and paint brush. There's also contrast being shown in the elements between the healthy plant and browning plant. Watercolour was used for everything and acrylic for lining the plants. I used dry brushing on the hair and the watering can which shows a different texture, texture is also being shown in the lines for the plants. This was unexpected but since my hair just extends as a replacement of the body, it reminded me and my friends a animation character: No-Face (Kaonashi) from Spirited Away. There was iris and pupil on the initial sketch but I decided to remove it as a tribute to my foundation figure drawing self portrait which also doesn't have iris and pupil.
